KPOP Non-IDOL Songs Worth Listening To (PART ONE)

Basically if you think about KPOP, the first thing that will pop into your mind will be IDOLS (or chocolate abs hihi :”>) because they rule the scene with their amazing dance moves, catchy and upbeat music and beautiful people. But you know, there really are a lot of groups/ solo singers out there that are REALLY talented. The only problem is that people these days are so stuck on Idol music that these talented acts do not get enough of the spotlight they deserve. Not that I’m saying that it’s wrong or anything (because I would know myself, I used to ignore music that isn’t Idol oriented), all I’m saying is that I hope that we can all at least look beyond the looks and stare at real talent in the eye because let’s face it, though Idol music is far from fading, there are a LOT of freshly debuted groups right now that focus more on looks and all that shallow shit rather than talent. So guys, here is my list of the KPOP Non-IDOL Songs that is definitely worth a shot. Take a look, and be amazed:

First on my list is Mackerel by Norazo. This song is just awesome! The first time I heard it on a Podcast show in iTunes, I was like “OMFG, I need to know the name of this song.” Surprisingly, the song is sung by men who are way above their 30’s. They aren’t an idol group and do not consider themselves an idol group. But they’ve been around for quite some time for them to develop a solid little fanbase. Unfortunately, if you ask an international KPOP fan if they know the group, they’d be like “Huh? Are those rookies?” Thankfully, ZE:A promoted Norazo’s popularity again for using this song in the Star Dance battle a few months ago.

Second is my favorite song in the list: Shall We Dance by Handsome People. I swear, this has been on repeat ever since I downloaded it around 4 months ago. I believe they also released a new song too named “Crazy” which has also been on constant loop.

This is a really awesome song. I’ve also watched them perform this weekly on Music Bank and they know how to rock the crowd. If you read AKP, you’d probably know that Untouchable also spoke out their regret with Idol music dominating the music industry. According to the duo, it’s becoming more and more difficult to survive in the music industry. “Because of the worsened competition in the digital music area, I’m upset about the current situation where it’s difficult to do music with just music. I wish that the genres (in the music industry) comes to include various other genres such as hip-hop and rock, and not just idol music.

I had to add this in the list. I know it’s getting pretty famous because it’s being repeated constantly on MTV and in KBS’s Hot KPOP Clip, but it surprises me that a few people have heard or has acknowledged this song! I mean, it was pretty high up the charts too. :| The video of this song is really sad. The first time I watched it, I was tearing up in the end. I could really feel the emotion of the song because of the music video.

The first time I heard this song, I thought it was really catchy. The song is fresh and lively and original because the two singers are ’96-liners who sing while playing the guitar. They put a little “idol” style into their music by making it dance-able with their coordinated strumming and hand movements.

I was debating whether or not to put this in my list. I don’t know if people consider Wheesung an idol or not. All I know is that he’s a damn good solo singer and it’s a shame that a good 60% of International KPOP fans do not see this. Luckily, 40% do appreciate his amazing voice and talent. I can say the same for K.WILL and LEE HYUN who rule the Male Solo Singer category.

Let me be the first to say: GOD, I LOVE THIS SONG! If you didn’t listen to the other songs above, DAMN YOU LISTEN TO THIS ONE. I SWEAR IT’S AWESOMESAUCE. I mean, it’s a cover of Tamia’s song, but the fact that they made most of the lyrics into Korean rap and singing… I just love, love, love it. IMO, it’s better than the original. But that’s just me. ;) Unfortunately, I’m not going to post the original music video because it sucks eggs– so I’m posting just the amazing song itself.

So that’s part one of my list. I can’t think of anymore right now because I’m effin’ exhausted. It’s like 1 in the morning and I should hit the sack. But hey, I hope you liked the ones I posted! If you have any suggestions of amazing, super fcuking talented non-idol singers with good songs, then please do leave a comment below so I can check them out as well. :)

  2. I didn’t like Untouchable until “You You You” (which is their latest song… *headdesk*), and I still listen to that song. It’s on my “go-to” playlist for when I’m mindlessly going through shuffle and pressing fastforward without even taking the time to realize what song’s on right now. I tend to do that a lot…
